Mayweather tries to take on Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas in basketball. Floyd finally took a Lose courtesy of the NBA star who beat the boxer in a "Best of 5" pickup basketball game ... though Floyd definitely held his own.

"That's game!" Thomas yells. "Forty-eight and three! That's game!"

Even though they're close in height -- Floyd is 5'8" and Thomas is 5'9" -- Isaiah was playing on another level.

But we gotta admit Floyd Mayweather flashed some skills ... and even sank a nice little teardrop.
He didn't win, but he broke protocol and competed against someone in their prime—at their game.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is currently training for his September 12 bout against Andre Berto—a 31-year-old challenger with knockout strength who will do his best to hit Mayweather and fail.
